How to have an Eco-Friendly Christmas with Ecard Mint

We all love Christmas but the fact is our favourite festive period can have a pretty harmful impact on the environment. In the UK around 30% more waste is created at Christmas than throughout the rest of the year. And that’s not all, around 6 million Christmas trees and nearly 300,000 tonnes of packaging are thrown away every single year.

So how can we be more green this winter, here at the Ecard Mint HQ we have been scratching our head and coming up with all sorts of good ideas! Handmade gifts, recycled wrapping paper and switching to Ecards all top our list.

We are really happy that more and more people are aiming for a green Christmas this year, so much so that many of the retailers are starting to take notice and change their wasteful ways

Stay tuned and find more about our further eco-conscious ideas about how to make your Christmas greener with Ecard Mint

Choosing a Charity for Your Corporate Ecard

What do Mark Zuckerberg, Benedict Cumberbatch and Kermit the Frog all have in common?

Well, they’ve all taken part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the latest craze to sweep the internet.

A N-ICE Way to Donate

And although it might seem a little bit silly, it’s all for a good cause as the organisation has raised $88.5 million in the US alone – a figure that keeps on rising.

It’s pretty remarkable, especially considering that in the same period last year, the charity reported that it collected just $2.6 million. And whilst the sheer amount of money that has been donated is obviously the main goal, the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS and MND Association (its UK counterpart) has had another positive effect: raising awareness.

If you hadn’t heard of the ALS association until recently, you wouldn’t be the only one. The organisation itself admits that it’s a small and (up until now) under publicised charity that funds research into a progressive degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has also helped to highlight another important point; there are lots of small charities out there, suffering from a lack of funding – perhaps you’ve worked with some of them or have donated to them in the past. And whilst the challenge has been largely focused on individuals promoting the charity, you might be wondering how to go about raising awareness on behalf of your company…

Well, you may be relieved to hear that raising awareness doesn’t always go hand in hand with some grand gesture like pouring a bucket of icy-cold water over your head or, as with the last internet charity craze aimed specifically at women, posting a photo of your make-up-less face. It can be as simple as making a donation at Christmas to share with your employees and business partners to a cause you feel is worth endorsing.

Use a Company E Card to Raise Awareness

We added the charity donation logo feature to our business ecard service specifically for this purpose; to allow companies to easily upload or choose from our list of logos to proudly promote their chosen cause on their corporate Christmas e card.

From Action Aid to the World Wildlife Fund and everything else in between, we hope you’ll find just the right Christmas ecard to help you spread the word.

How corporate ecards keep on giving

At a time when competition for business is tough, companies must constantly be looking for ways to elevate themselves within their field. Making a donation to a charity is a powerful way in which companies can do just this by attracting consumers, retaining employees and improving their reputation.

Numerous studies have proven that by supporting philanthropic causes, companies do better; it attracts consumers and makes employees happier. Cone Inc. have carried out research that proves just this. In their 2008 study* they found that almost 80% of consumers stated that they would start using a different brand if they were associated with a good cause and an even greater proportion stated that when a company supports a cause that they care about, they have a more positive image of that company and are more likely to buy its products.

Ecard Mint corporate cards can help you integrate your charity donations into your marketing strategy by allowing you to add a ‘donate’ button to your card. Additionally, the relatively low cost of sending an ecard gives you the perfect opportunity to tell the recipients that you have donated the amount that you usually would have spent on sending printed cards on a donation to your dedicated charity.

This provides the perfect opportunity to tell you clients and partners about your social ethos. Get creative with the charity you support – choose a local charity to build connections with the community in which you work, or donate to a cause which relates to your business and affects your target audience.

Corporate ecards: why they (literally) won’t cost the earth

There is, without doubt, an increasing amount of pressure on companies to demonstrate that they have a comprehensive corporate environmental policy. Due to the increased research into carbon emissions and energy efficiency in the past decade, it is vital that all companies, big and small, are doing what they can to lessen their impact on the environment. Corporate ecards constitute a cost-effective and creative way of doing just this by helping companies to ‘go green.’

No resources are used to make electronic cards and, because they don’t need to travel by land, sea or air to be delivered, they are an effective way of keeping carbon footprints low by avoiding excess fuel consumption. Sending corporate ecards also fits perfectly into the ‘paperless office’ strategy which is being adopted by companies around the world. Moreover, not only are you helping the environment by sending ecards but you are also making your business partners, clients and customers aware of your green ethos: ecards are a great way to let your target audience know that you’re serious about the environment and hence are a good corporate citizen. Company environmental policies are no longer a nice to have, but a need to have – and they’re here to stay.

Be, and be seen to be, a good corporate citizen.

Think paperless.

Ecards: Keeping your contacts warm without spamming them

It’s no secret that people do business with people they like. We are living in a digital age and companies are pouring resources into building relationships and ‘likeability’ through social media networks. The long term aim of such strategies involves converting these connections into leads. Ecards can be used to complement this: they can be used to keep contacts who you connect with regularly warm, without constantly bombarding them with marketing messages.

Ecards also provide a way of reconnecting with old contacts in a way that doesn’t seem overly ‘salesy’ and they can help to build a more personal connection with the recipients: a personalised birthday card, or a thank you note for someone’s custom, can work wonders. Not only can you build and reinforce these connections with ecards, but you can easily measure the results and benefits that they reap. The measurable analytics provided by our ecards mean that you can track precisely how contacts respond to the card and can thus learn more about what drives your business relationships.
